Today’s the day! “Normal” character meet and greets return to Disney, in Florida, California, Aulani, and Disney Cruise Lines.
When Disney closed that fateful day in March 2020, we had no idea when parks would reopen, but we knew that it would be different. When Walt Disney World reopened in July of the same year, magic was still there, but the characters weren’t!
Of course, as things have progressed, we have received socially distanced meet and greets, as well as some socially distanced character dinners, like Chef Mickey’s. Characters were able to pose with you from a distance, usually behind ropes.
For those of us who are hard-core Disney fans (myself included), we have been yearning for the day we would be able to hug our favorite characters again, and share special moments with them as they sign autograph books, pose for a picture, and fill our hearts with that signature Disney magic. Today will be filled with many tears, laughs, and relief, that Disney is slowly returning to normal.
Disney Announced Return of the Meet and Greets Last Month
In the statement released by Disney, they stated “As early as April 18, we will start reintroducing traditional character greetings at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, as well as aboard Disney Cruise Line and ulani Resort inat A Hawaii. Very soon, Guests will once again be able to hug Mickey Mouse, get an autograph from Mulan, and share a laugh with Goofy. We know many of you have missed these special moments, and your Disney character friends have missed you, too!”
They continue, “During the past two years, we’ve taken a very gradual, intentional approach to health and safety protocols. Recent trends and guidance have provided opportunities for us to bring back some of our most beloved magic, like character greetings and dining experiences. While not all locations will be available immediately, we anticipate reopening in phases throughout the spring and early summer”
While not every character is back yet, we have hope that we will see and hug our favorite characters very soon!
